Hop (in the computer networking)

Hop (in the computer networking):

1. A hop is one portion of the path between source and destination.
2. Data packets pass through routers and gateways on the way.
3. Each time packets are passed to the next device, a hop occurs and to see how many hops it takes to get from one host to another ping or traceroute/tracepath commands can be used.
